Day 3

Monday 23 March 2020

Me and Lisa both went into work today; we only had three kids in.

Roads eerily quiet and very quick journey.

All done by 2pm, return made to the DfE by midday, then made sure all was good with Google Classroom.

No five-a-side footy this evening; we have played in -5 temperature in the past!

Had an extra glass of wine as no school for me tomorrow.

Day 2

Sunday 22 March 2020

Stan is strumming his new guitar but has started to get blisters.

There’s all these fascinating images representing what the virus looks like.

Adora is learning how to play Moon River on the piano.

Really noticing the lack of ANY sport on the telly.

Went to see Ruth at her house and tried to get her on to Skype whilst standing on her doorstep.

Saw Dad at his house and took some home made Banana Bread which made him very happy.

Day 1

Saturday 21 March 2020

My sister’s birthday today.

Sent her an apology via WhatsApp saying that we would all be able to get together after all of this has passed.

Starting to get a little concerned about Dad on his own; Ruth and Bar are self-isolating too.

Death toll in Northern Italy and Spain is awful.

South Korea seems to have it under control due to mass testing regime.

Day 0

Friday 20 March 2020

Schools close today.

But remain open for children of key workers and those who are most vulnerable.

Kids travel home from school for the final time for a while – not sure how long.

Decide to have a takeaway curry from the Bengal Diner as we’re not sure how long they will be open for. Knackered.

The government are doing these daily briefings from Downing Street. Basically it the PM flanked by two others, politicians or scientists.

Day -1

Thursday 19 March 2020

Six people off work today, self isolating for a range of reasons; pregnant, diabetes, asthmatic, live with elderly relatives.

Loads of manic but focussed preparation for the pending closure of school.

Adora is disappointed that she will not be able to complete her GCSE exams in the summer, but Stan doesn’t seem particularly concerned.

It looks like the teachers will be asked to provide a GCSE grade based on mocks and coursework.

Lisa has been to the supermarket again to get supplies for the coming weeks ahead; there is a real bunker-mentality gripping the country right now.

Day -2

Wednesday 18 March 2020

We knew it was coming but didn’t know exactly when.

Two teachers and two students in the house meant we were waiting for our schools to close.

Everyone was busying themselves to get everything prepared for what felt like a big snow storm.

The government had started to broadcast daily briefings from Downing Street at 5pm.

This is the one when Boris announced to the nation that from this coming Friday, when schools shut their gates at 4pm, they would be closed indefinitely.Boris announced three-week lockdown
